125th Anniversary Lunch

Last Saturday, May 31st, we celebrated with great enthusiasm the commemorative luncheon for the 125th anniversary of our society's founding. From early in the morning, Álex Elizalde, Aitor Arretxea, Patxi Alvear, and Fernando Blanco devoted themselves to preparing an exquisite menu that opened with a hake pie, ham, foie gras mi-cuit, and a classic Russian salad. These starters gave way to a delicious fish soup and a lamb stew accompanied by seasonal vegetables. As a final touch, a traditional Betelu shepherd's stew was served, the perfect culmination of such a succulent meal. All of this, of course, was washed down with generous toasts of white and red wines, cider, and, of course, several bottles of sparkling wine for the occasion.

Once again, the society was overwhelmed by the attendance of members and friends who didn't want to miss the opportunity to celebrate this anniversary in a memorable way. The atmosphere was especially lively thanks to the brilliant performance of pianist Iñigo Arocena, who offered a varied and vibrant repertoire. His interpretation ranged from passionate Mexican corridos to well-known popular songs, which were enthusiastically sung along to by all present, especially those that are part of our local tradition. Arocena, an employee of the Real Sociedad and a dedicated musician, combines his profession with his active participation in the Donosti gospel choir and the Taupata batucada group, where he displays his great passion for music.

There was also time for reflection and remembrance of the central purpose of the meeting: reaching 125 years of history is, without a doubt, an exceptional milestone. The president, Koldo Arnaiz, spoke in Basque and Spanish, emphasizing the importance of the anniversary, before handing over to Iñigo Arocena, who, inspired by our society's motto—"Erric bere legue, icheac bere aztura" (The people, their laws, the houses, their customs)—sang some heartfelt bertsos dedicated to Kañoyetan.

An unforgettable celebration that will remain etched in the memory of everyone present!
