125 years beating to the rhythm of the drum parade
Our gastronomic society is celebrating a very special anniversary this year: 125 years of shared history.
What better way to celebrate than surrounded by those who give meaning to all of this: partners, families, neighbors and the city of San Sebastian itself.
Saturday, January 17:
As a prelude to the grand celebration, a notable gathering of gastronomic societies took place on Saturday. Representatives from various societies in the Old Town met at Kanoyetan to share a meal and celebrate, an event that highlighted the spirit of conviviality, collaboration, and mutual respect that has historically characterized the neighborhood's societies. In the context of the 125th anniversary, this meeting took on a particularly symbolic meaning. Iván Larraza, Borja Isturiz, Asier Zabaleta, and Fernando Blanco participated in the cooking. It is worth noting that the drum parade first took place in 1992, although collaboration had existed for several years prior.
January 19: sharing and accompanying
In the morning, the monthly hamaiketako (mid-morning snack) took place with the Old Town day center, a particularly endearing event, full of closeness and affection towards those who are an essential part of our neighborhood.
This gathering is made possible thanks to the commitment of our members, who collaborate in both the preparation and organization. The mid-morning snack is prepared on a voluntary basis and is financed through the "charitable donation" section of the gradebook, in addition to the members' own contributions.
Thanks to this collective effort, our seniors can continue to enjoy a precious moment of togetherness, which they always receive with emotion and gratitude. As a grand finale, on Monday the 19th, the drum parade sounded once again, filling the morning with joy and making the day even more special.
The eve: a tradition that is passed down
The celebration began on the eve of San Sebastián Day with a moving children's drum parade, in which nearly 80 children participated, following the same route as the adults. It was a heartwarming sight that confirms the tradition is alive and well, passed down from generation to generation.
Afterwards, the eve dinner and official drum parade were held, with the flag being raised at 12 on the society's flagpole.
January 20th, Saint Sebastian's Day:
Saturday dawned with a festive atmosphere and restrained excitement. We welcomed the Mayor of San Sebastián, Jon Insausti, as our special guest, and the traditional red scarf was placed on his head in a gesture laden with symbolism.
To the sound of the Marcha de San Sebastián, performed by the Amaikak Bat drum corps, and with the participation of our partner Ekain Kazabon, we danced and shared one of those moments that remain etched in our collective memory.
After the music, the meal arrived. The official San Sebastián Day meal was a tribute to culinary excellence:
Smoked duo
Mushroom consommé
Cod in pil-pil sauce
125 years later, we continue celebrating as always: together, with respect for tradition, love for gastronomy and commitment to our people.
Thank you so much to all the people who make it possible.
